Scenic Japanese Backdrop

Uncommon Japanese ambrotype of a woman posed in front of an elaborate painted backdrop, including a bridge and idyllic landscape, anonymous Japanese circa 1875. Housed a in period kiriwood case with calligraphic inscription in front lid in Japanese characters. Dimensions including case slightly under 4.5 x 3.25 inches (11x8 cm).
This is one of the few examples I have seen of a Japanese ambrotype image using a well-painted studio backdrop, something that seems odd given the influence of Japanese graphic forms such as woodcuts on period western art. But for whatever reason this technique was not widely employed.
Condition: Image appears to be in near-perfect condition.
