Tintype in Mother-of-Pearl
SOLD October 2013 |
Ninth plate oval mother-of-pearl pushbutton case containing a tintype of woman, circa 1870s.
The brass ornament on this case and overall design appears very similar to Berg 6-341, although in the case Berg illustrates the mother-of-pearl is attached to case with small nails. (Paul K. Berg, "19th Century Photographic Cases and Wall Frames", 2003, p. 452.) In the case offered here the MOP is glued down. (As found the MOP was loose, has been reglued.)
Velvet areas on case somewhat matted; silk pad facing image has stains
