With Bells in Her Hair
SOLD October 2013 |
Crisp gem-sized tintype in a paper CDV-style mount showing two women's heads from the back, circa 1865, with photographer's label on reverse for Jordon Brothers, Utica, NY. The paper mat is embossed at right edge "Potter's Patent March 7, 1865".
This finely crafted image shows every detail of these ladies Civil-War era coiffures, including strings of tiny bells or tassels strung through the leftmost woman's hair. Her companion's curly locks lean against her shoulder, as if for support.
The label on reverse reads "Gem Miniatures Taken with the Patent Multiplying Camera / Only at Jordon Bros. Ferrotype Rooms, 132 Genesee St. (over Grannis & Co's Bank) Utica NY."
