Nebraska Farm from the Sky
SOLD September 2014 |
Large card-mounted albumen print giving a rare aerial view of a large farm near Malcolm, Nebraska circa 1890, including numerous farm implements, buggies wagons, and livestock. Together with a period auction broadside and five period letters which were found along with it. Dimensions of card about 8 x 10 inches (20x25 cm), with backstamp in purple ink reading "H. M. Westcott, Photographer. Malcolm, Neb."
The broadside found with photo refers to a farm sale held February 10, 1891 in Woodlawn, Nebraska (a location near Malcolm) and has writing on front and back indicating it was sent as a letter. Contents of the five letters have not been reviewed but the envelopes are postmarked from Woodlawn and Emerald City, Nebraska 1890-93 and addressed to a Mr. Lida Woolf in Stewartsville, New Jersey, apparently sent by his brother George in Nebraska.
Fantastic view of a large collection of period farm implements, perhaps relating to a farm sale, with the entire farmstead placed before us, with its component barns and yards, as well as the landscape in which it rests.
CONDITION: Image has yellowing, wear, scattered brown spots. Card stock is browned and brittle, with areas of loss at edges.
