Vintage albumen print circa 1870s showing ancient Roman bread loaves and fragments recovered from the ruins of Pompeii, by Robert Rive. Mounted on period board about 8.75 x 11 inches (22x28 cm). Titled in the negative at bottom edge "N.o 5090 Napoli Museo - Pezzi di pane di Pompei / Rive." Print size 7.75 x 10 inches (20x26 cm).   ( Inventory# ie221 )

Condition: There are some white areas in image on right side, these are from defects in the negative, not damage to the print. There is one scrape from the print's emulsion with a dirt stain, located near top edge of print left of center (above the third dish from left, top row -- the dish holding the thin, dark, biscotti-looking fragments). This can be seen at top of the second close-up image below.
