Gonzo Dog
SOLD June 2016 |
Amusing sixth plate daguerreotype of an attractive young girl clutching a fluffy dog with blurred, comically gonzo or "zombie" looking eyes, to each of which I believe the photographer has also added a dash of gilt coloring, further accentuating the "zombie" effect. By Van Loan, probably Samuel Van Loan, Philadelphia, circa 1855. Housed in a half case, mat stamped "Van Loan" lower right corner.
Condition: A few areas with pinprick protrusions and calcium spots.
