Contemporary whole plate tintype (wet-collodion image on japanned aluminum) by Kevin Klein. Mock astronomical image depicting a spacecraft based on period patent design approaching the red planet. Housed in gilt mat with dome-shaped opening and black frame, overall dimensions including frame 12.5 x 10.5 inches (30x26 cm). Visible area of image about 7.75 x 6 inches (19x15 cm). Titled by artist on mat "Le Poisson Volant s'approchant de Mars" ("The Flying Fish approaching Mars").   ( Inventory# ie541 )

Created using models of the photographer's own construction, this image is intended a homage to the 1900s-era science fiction of artists such as Georges Méliès. The spacecraft's design is inspired by 1893 patent for an "Aerial Machine" by S.B. Battey.

This framed image will ship to high bidder directly from artist.
