Cabinet-card format albumen print circa 1885 showing the business establishment of Mullaney and Hayes Wholesale Liquors, located in Indianapolis, Indiana at 123 South Meriden street, with what are probably Mullaney and Hayes standing out front next to a huge barrel. With photographer's imprint front reading "W. O. Howell / Novelties in Views / Photographer."
Mullaney and Hayes were located in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1875-1891, and at the address shown in this image, 123 S. Meriden, from 1884-1891. Some tiny writing in the sign under their names reads "Cleaveland", referring to the Cleaveland block or building in Indianapolis. I am not sure of the meaning of the huge barrel -- whether liquor was actually delivered in these or whether it is more symbolic -- but in any case it serves as a physical signpost for their business.
CONDITION: In excellent condition.
